Q about ventilation

So, now that I’m going to clean my bathtub (as well as having eaten White Castle last night), I’ve got to figure out the best way to ventilate the place while cleaning and drying.

The bathroom is, like most bathrooms, small and has one window in it (although it is a surprisingly large window for a bathroom). There is no other ventilation excepting a poorly-hung door with an uneven undercut. Except for a couple of fans, I have no means of mechanical ventilation.

My first thought would be that I should open every window in the joint as more windows = more ventilation. However, I recall a very interesting thread from a year or so ago regarding “box fans, pointing in or out?” and the answer was not what one would think (tho’ I forget exactly what it was). In this, the windows weren’t all open those that were were only opened half-way.

I assume this was to increase pressure and get a “vacuum” effect going.

So, without having seen the apartment, what’s the best way to ventilate: open bathroom window, door closed? Bathroom window open, door open? Some combination of the above plus opening windows in other rooms?

If you’re using something stong enough that you need that much ventilation, I suppose my idea would be to put a box fan in the bathroom window pointing out and open another window somewhere else in the apartment, preferably as close to the bathroom as possible. I wouldn’t open all the windows as that’s just going to let much more cold air in the you need. And I woudn’t put the fan in another room pointing in becuase you’ll lose alot of that through other non-air tight places in the house. Remember, you’re just trying to ventilate one small area, not the entire house.
