This I know from myself (apx 9 years on atkins) and others - it is 90% false. Some people when converting to atkins from a low fat diet do see an initial rise in cholesterol but then it usually lowers to a level that is below what they had before atkins.
What turns me off is Dr. Atkins trying to convince people that primative man ate a meat diet. Hello? If it was a choice between picking up a piece of fruit and chowing down, or chasing an animal, killing it, ripping it apart and eating it, which would you do? Meat has to be eaten right away, or it goes bad. Veggies, fruit and nuts keep.
The idea that we are naturally “meat eaters” does not make sense. My supervisor follows Atkins diet. She takes 10 to 20 sick days a year. I’m a vegetarian. I’ve taken 7 sick days in 10 years. I’m simply in better health.
