Q re detailing and auto trade-in

Question for automotive types (or car salesman, present or former):

We’re in the process of selling our 2007 Nissan Sentra, and we’re trying to detail it so that the small blemishes that come with everyday wear and tear are less apparent. My wife wants to sand down the (incidental) rust on the wheel rims and cover it with Rust-Oleum or the like, as well as detailing the wheel covers.

I can see the wheel covers, but does a dealership really take the condition of the wheel rims into account? And is it worth sanding the rust off?

Thanks for any edifying responses.

A dealership will take any and everything into account when it comes to buying your car-their job is to buy low and sell high. Please tell me that you are just selling the car, and not trading it in?

A good used car appraiser won’t be fooled by an amateur attempt to cover minor rust. He will know what he’s looking at and offer the minimum he can get away with. You are selling for wholesale so expect to get a low price. Check KBB or something and notice the difference between trade-in and private party price. You may think twice about your cunning plan.
