Q: The PC's Faxing Capabilities

My PC’s built-fax always adjusts my margins on Word documents - for the worst. True, my margins for this document may be tight, but shouldn’t the fax be able to handle it? Why does it re-adjust my margins, and can I do anything to get around this?

Thanks,

Some printers can print closer to the edge of the paper than others. Typically a laser printer can handle a tighter margin than a deskjet, for example. My guess is your fax softaware is assuming the fax on the other end can’t handle such a tight margin (probably a correct assumption) so it adjusts, rather than risking some words being cut off.

If you still want to get around it, I’d suggest an email to fax service, such as fax1.com, which as far as I know doesn’t change your document.

My fax software had a setting inside it for page margins. If the margin setting I used in creating my document was less than the margin setting in the fax software, it would try to adjust this (usually by shrinking the whole page).

This was fixed when I found this setting in the fax software, and changed it to the smallest margin it would accept. You might look around in your fax software and see if there is some margin setting in there that you can adjust.
