Q: TV Scriptwriter's Terminology

Maybe some SDoper knows this: What is the term used by TV scriptwriters for the “clincher” that ends a scene? Specifically, it might refer to the closing gag in an episode that sorta ties it all up? IIRC, is it “Blackout”?

Also, what is the last five minutes of a sit-com called? Before this little segment, the conflict in the plot has been resolved. So, this is just a “small talk” type of scene for a last laugh (with no real purpose, in contrast to the above type of closure) before the closing credits roll???

Epilog(ue)?

The term I was taught in scriptwriting was “tag.”

The question is sorta vague, but I agree with tag or epilogue. The “clincher” could be called a “payoff,” especially in comedy.

Also, in episodic TV scripts, at the end of an act, the writer will usually write:

FADE OUT

END ACT ONE

Or whatever act it is. Thought this could also be what you were looking for.

Denouement?

The word I have always seen and heard is payoff.
