There are certainly large crowds out and about having a look at the QM2.
I like this historical bit:
It would be fun to see the two of them sailing in the same harbor.
(Although, I am disappointed in the design of the QM2: it looks like someone grabbed a NYC condo development and dropped it onto a really big ship’s hull. Pretty she ain’t.)
They left together from NY Harbor in April of 2005, and I went over to Hoboken to see them come down the Hudson, one after another, along with literally thousands of other people on both sides of the river. Frank Sinatra Park (what?) was so mobbed I had to hand my camera to my dad so he could try and shoot pictures over the heads of the crowd.
Unfortunately, it was night and extremely cold and windy; even the professional news crews’ pictures looked like those ones people took of nighttime UFOs in the fifties. 
But with the naked eye, they were a beautiful sight. I’d love to see them in the summer.

I saw the two ships leaving New York Harbor from Battery Park.
It was really amazing how much bigger the QM2 was from the QE2.
However, from the look of them it was apparent that the QM2 was just a cruise ship – big, bulky, blocklike – while the QE2 was an ocean liner – long and lean. I’ll take 'em old style, thank you.
Heh, too funny. I wonder if they thought about trying it at low tide?
There is video of the QM2 making her way under the Golden Gate. There is only a few feet to spare.
Wow, that QM2 is massive. I think I prefer the QE2 - it/she is prettier. Note my impressive use of seafaring terminology here. 
Plus, my mother let me stay off school way back when so she could take me to see the QE2 being launched. Yes, my affection are easily bought.
