quality eye glasses?

For the first time in my life, I need eye glasses for slight distance correction and for reading. Got an exam and a prescription from an opthomologist. Then I went to EyeMart Express and got frames and progressive lenses. They seem okay - take some getting used to. But then somebody said to me, “How did you get them so quick? Didn’t you get hand-ground lenses?” or something like that. Now I wonder if I did the right thing.

What is the difference in quality between lenses made in those quick eye glass shops and from the really expensive places?

Having worn glasses for almost 30 years, I would think it has a lot to do with your prescription. In my later years of wearing glasses, my prescription got stronger and stronger. More so than average, meaning the optician would have to order the lenses. My last pair is made of some sort of polycarbonate stuff that is very tough to cut and grind properly. In fact, it took three weeks and four pairs of lenses to get it right and even then, it’s not perfect. Next year I am going to look into (no pun intended) LASIK.
