My friends and I were debating just how good the people playing basketball in Harlem’s Rucker Park would be. I’m not talking about the tournaments that can have NBA players in them, just everyday pick-up games. If we were to go to Rucker Park would be playing against the best players in NYC, or just average neighborhood guys. Are the players typically on the level of good high school players, small college players, or Division I college players? How would the level of play there compare with intramurals at a large university, where many of the best could probably play for small colleges and some people can hang with the varsity players (playing for a top 10 team in the nation) who go out there?
Anyone played there or watched a lot of games there?
GQ if for questions with factual answers. The responses to your question will most likely be opinions, so I’ll move this thread to IMHO.
I would imagine the level of play to be pretty high. You may find players that are good enough to play D1 ball but for various reasons, choose not to. I would even guess there might be a small percentage of players that may be good enough for the NBA. Historically some of the very big name players refined there moves on this court. Somebody supposedly developed the cross over dribble there.
The father of one of my players grew up on that court. He tells some pretty interesting stories about the place.
Possibly a “B” game going on there from time to time but my guess is that you had better have serious game if you call next on that court.
