Wow. You have just done something I wouldn’t even conceive of attempting. My hat is off to you, sir.
Thank you for sharing and congratulations on finishing the race.
It is official. Scylla is up there with the pantheon of Dopers who should unarguably, definitely be published.
I must say, I have complete agreement with this statement.
Scylla - have you ever read Marathon & Beyond? It seems like your posts are custom-made for them. Seriously.
Thanks again for a great thread, and congratulations on your run.
Congratulations, mate. Sounds like a hell of an experience. I look forward to your future stories - have you considered writing for publication, say for a magazine?
Congratulations. Whatever else you do, you have a beautiful daughter, the lovely Angel of Death for a wife, and you finished a 50-mile maration the first time you did it.
Rest on your laurels, my friend. You have earned them.
Edward:
I dunno. It’s true that I’m already feeling a little let down without some stupid challenge to fear in my immediate future, but this feels like it was a one shot. A marathon seems purer to me because you go out there and give it all you got and when you’re done, so is it. This, it seems is more of a logistical exercise in energy management.
Who knows though.
Mr. Goob:
Kooter’s point is you don’t get to choose your spirit animal. It chooses you.

Yes, you mentioned the walk/run theory. Somebody else did. I read about it. It was advised to me in the briefing.
The problem with good advice is that the person hearing it has to be intelligent enough to listen and implement it. Having not followed your advice, I feel qualified to attest that I should have.
Shibboleth
Last March she got a little sick, had a febrile seizure, choked on a mucous plug and stopped breathing. I was trying to resuscitate her and nothing was working. I thought she was dead in my arms, but the ambulance people were heroic. They got there incredibly fast, like 3-4 minutes, the 9/11 dispatcher was a saint, and she made it. Fucked me up, though.
Anyway, in what way does this thread have relevance for your? Hallucinations? Imaginary friends on motorcycles? Lying in dead spirit animals? I’m very curious as I thought I’d succeeded in writing a wholly irrelevant thread.
Thank you again, everybody else. About writing, I had stopped writing my Senior year in College when I lost my inspiration, and didn’t get it back again 'till the birth of my daughter.
As a baby, she would sleep on my lap, and I’d get bored, browse the internet. I found this place, entered into some discussions and started writing stuff. It’s very satisfactory as I get instant feedback and gratification. I’ve tried to write some other stuff and have some half (and less) finished stuff, and am currently working on an idea for a children’s book.
I did get published though. One of my posts got picked up by a magazine. For me, though, it’s more about the pleasure of writing than anything else.
