Qué significa ''Tumbao''?

So I was watching the Latin Grammies, & Celia Cruz, first lady of salsa, comes on, singing “La negra tiene tumbao”. What’s tumbao? Anyone?

In a typical “Salsa” band, the rhythm section has congas, timbales, bongos, bass, piano & of course, the claves. The clave is the rhythm that holds the entire ensemble together, but the “heartbeat” comes from the conga & bass TUMBAO (TOOM-bow). A tumbao is any repeated figure that sets up the groove.
