I saw a commercial for the new Low Carb Coke today. The background music was “I Want to Break Free” by Queen. For those of you who are not familiar with it, click here.
For those of you who are familiar with it, does this seem wrong to you? I think I now understand how upset the Beatles fans were when “Revolution” was used to promote Nike.
BTW, L/C Coke has 18 carbs/serving, while Diet Coke has 1 Carb/serving. So, what’s so “Low Carb” about it?
People who tend to drink sugary sodas are picky about what they drink. They don’t want to drink NutraSweet because they don’t like the taste, or because they think they don’t need to, or because they think it’s bad for them (like sugar is vitamins or something…). Having something have half the calories of sugary soda water makes it sound like it’s good for you, when it’s really just less bad for you. Kind of like 2% milk or low-fat peanut butter.
I think I’m about to get roasted by people who aren’t on diets for some of those remarks…
Low-carb sodas are like better deals on cell phones. Want fewer carbs in your drinks? Drink diet sodas. Want lower cell phone rates? Don’t use one.
The commercials I’ve seen have been using the Rolling Stones’s “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. The ones they show in the movie theaters before the movie are incredibly drawn out.
 Queen’s been used for as long as I can remember to sell stuff here. Typically beer and cars, but plenty of other stuff as well.
There was a recent TV series (Pride was the name, I think. It was about an ice hockey team and starred Kimutaku) where the background music was nothing but Queen. I love Queen, but it got a bit distracting after a while. I just hope the boys are getting some good royalty checks.
