Queen (the band) kick ass

In my humble opinion.

i wish that i had a chance to see them live before Freddie Mercury died

Damn!

I saw them live a couple of times, once at Live Aid and then once at an open air gig they did with Status Quo.

I’m not a big fan of their stuff (bit corny I always thought) but live they were great. Especially at Live Aid, they kind of stole the show there. And I only went to that in order to see The Who. I didn’t care about any of the other bands. I didn’t really care about the charitable causes (shameful I know). I went to see The Who and for no other reason. Queen were the furthest thing from my mind but they so kicked ass live.

You’re standing there watching Bohemian Rhapsody done, a song you’ve heard throughout your life, you can’t fail to be impressed.

Damn, I envy you Jojo. Live aid is their most famous show, and you were there?

Damn.

It’s too bad Freddie Mercury died while i was in 3rd grade.

Yeah, Queen rocked… I’m a big fan. It’s a shame Freddie died, there aren’t many singers around that had a range like he did. He was amazing.

lord love a duck… [sorry about that. I get rashes hearing Queen]

Conceding that the SDMB seems to bring out laughably unquantifiable statements in me, I submit that, in the case of the mighty Queen, there was no more talented quartet of individuals to form a band since the Beatles. So there.

I have been a card-carrying (no kidding…it’s in my wallet now) member of the International Queen Fan Club since 1983. I used to worship them. And I still really like their music.

I saw them on their last US tour in 1982 when they had Billy Squier opening for them. I would have loved to see them again and again.

Damn, I miss Freddie.

I loves the Queen. I musta listened to their first album (on tape) a dozen times the last time I drove down to California. Too bad it’s hard to find anything but Greatest Hits these days (that’s not to say that I don’t have the Platinum Series CD collection). With my favorite artists, I tend to like to listen to the album as a whole, rather than what everybody else thought was their greatest stuff.

Great King Rat is a hell of a track.

Tell it, brother!

Yes, he was the son of a whore.

Always wanted by the law!

You guys should check out that massive box set that was released.

And me? I’ve got the original ‘Seven Seas of Rhye’ 45. The one with ‘See What A Fool I’ve Been’ on the B-Side.

Yeah, but did your brother have sex with Freddie? I have a very sneaking suspicion that mine did in 1977 when the band played the Scope Arena in Norfolk.

At least I got a copy of News of the World autographed by the whole band out of the deal.

Dude, you’re old.

Don’t make me come over there and smack you upside the head with a Metamucil bottle…

In my opinion, Freddie Mercury was the best rock vocalist ever. Since his death, though, the surviving members of Queen have continued to have success, although not of the same level. Roger Taylor and Brian May are both decent singers - Taylor sounds kinda like Rod Stewart with maple syrup poured over his vocal cords. John Deacon is apparently well-respected as a composer and as a musician, but I don’t think he sings.

I’m a little confused that y’all have trouble finding anything but the Greatest Hits CDs. I always find tons of Queen in the music stores.

plnnr So Freddie Mercury was the best singer your brother had ever come accross.

Old fart here who thinks Queen is one of the ultimate rock bands. My kids grew up listening to Queen, Boston and other groups. At my oldest son’s wedding, he and I and my other kids, along with some of my son’s frat brothers were singing Bohemian Rhapsody at the top of our lungs in the middle of the dance floor.

The bride’s father (a “christian” asshole) came over to me with a look of disgust on his face and asked incredulously, “You know this music?” My reply: “Who do you think turned my kids on to it?”

Freddy did a hell of a job. It didn’t hurt that he had some excellent vocal and instrument work behind him.

Loved Queen since my brother -stopped- listening to them and gave me his copy of their albums back in… Hrm… 1987? (I know, late start…). I have one ‘fun’ anecdote about Queen fan-dom, too. Had a friend who loved their music. Absolutely adored it, but knew nothing about the band. He was also a major homophobe. When I explained Freddy’s sexual orientation to him, he just got this stunned, ‘huh’ look on his face. I didn’t see him again for about a week, and just like that, he stopped being homophobic. It was kind of weird, but a nice surprise.

A Night at the Opera is one of the top albums of all time. What’s also amazing is their wide range of musical styles on it – from hard rock to music hall, and everywhere in between. “Bohemian Rhapsody,” is by far the most complex song to be a top-40 hit.

I don’t think they hit the same level with any subsequent albums (who could?), but they were still capable of putting out superb songs.

My sister, who happens to be younger than me, is a Queen junkie! She even had her goldfish named after them. :frowning: the last fish, “John”, died in February, but they were ancient for fish… over 6 yrs old!
I love to crank up the stereo in my car when their songs come on or when I put one of thier CDs in. Also, I had lots of Queen played at my wedding. We used Best Friend as our ‘walk up the aisle’ song

Moving this to Cafe Society.

Personally, I think that this thread title is right up there with “The sky is blue” or “The Pope is Catholic”. Of course Queen kicks ass. How could it be any other way? And what reasonable human being is not already convinced of this?
