I have only the very, very faintest memory of a Greek Myth (I think) about the following:
A Greek God (or mortal) is washing (or dipping) a vase (or something like a vase) and forgets to move his hand, so that the part of the vase (or whatever) under his hand doesn’t get washed (or dipped).
For some reason (I can’t imagine what) this has terrible results for the god (or mortal
I apologize for how limited my memory of this is. But I think of it every time I wash my coffee cup.
Anyone know what this myth/story is?
Achilles isn’t “something like a vase” but OP’s question reminds us that Achilles’ immortal mother bathed him in the River Styx to make him invulnerable. But she kept her hand on his heel the entire time, so Achilles’ heel didn’t get bathed and was his vulnerable spot. Some people say Achilles died when Paris son of Priam shot Achilles in the heel with a poisonous arrow.
Yes, definitely the Achilles heel legend. The Achilles tendon is one of the most vulnerable spots on the human body.
