This question actually goes out to all things of the same principle. Now in Chinese they will just use a character for someone’s name, and if that is going to be used in a western book of some sort they have to translate it to the Latin alphabet. Now I remember in school when reading a name they would show you the name and then in parenthesis they would have the pronunciation of it. Now since they are bassicly making up the word when they translate it why not translate it phetonicly? Why Spell it awkward. Is the name they issue in the Latin alphabet pronounceable in something like french? Because it doesnt seem to be in english.

Chinese romanization is phonetic. Its rules were just developed around the needs of the Chinese and their language, rather than to make things easy to pronounce for non-Chinese speakers unfamiliar with the language.
