Question about judges and their retention in Illinois

As many of you Illinoisians know, Judge Gordon Maag was not retained to his position on the court. I did some research for a column I am writing and found out that only two judges have not been retained since the 1964 amendment of voting on retention.

So, who were these two judges that were not retained. What were the reasons for their retention? Did they do something that constituted them from non-retention?

I don’t believe that’s correct. According to this site, 28 judges were denied retention, and that was only through 1994 (although it seems to have happened less often in recent years). Perhaps you are referring only to appellate judges? Other articles say Maag is the first appellate judge ever to be booted.
