I recently acquired Destroyer, Led Zeppelin in Cleveland in '77. During the acoustic set Robert Plant keeps saying something, it sounds like “the doctor was played by larry badgely” or something like that.
Does anybody know what he could have been talking about.
Did they have a fifth man up on stage, cause if so, I thought that was something they never did.
Or is that I’m missing some nuance from 70’s pop culture.
Larry Badgely was a real doctor, and he toured with Led Zeppelin in 1977 (he’d also toured with the Rolling Stones earlier).
I don’t know any of the gory details, but the few searches I did on Google led me to the conclusion that Dr. Badgely eventually had a major falling out with the band, and that the good doctor accused Page and Plant of stealing drugs from his supply.
