Roger T. Pipe, the porn critic (yes, there are such things) runs RogReviews, and interviews porn performers. Here are their comments on condom usage.
Anna Amore: (Asked "Do you use condoms in every scene?) “No, I’m not that way at all. I figure if the AIDS test is cleared. I have been really lucky. The people they pair me with seem very responsible.”
Charlene Aspen: (“Do you work with condoms or without?”) “Either way…I feel confident in the testing program we have in the industry. I take care of myself.”
Patrick Collins (actor/director/producer): Elegant Angel [a porn production company] is condom-optional company. “If people want to use them, I don’t care.” Use of condoms has “not hurt sales one bit.”
Jessica Darlin: “I don’t like condoms. I never have. I admit I will not use a condom until they become absolutely mandatory, and even then I would probably just quit.”
Tricia Devereaux: "It’s been almost three years since the last major infection and people are getting relaxed again. I can understand when girls say ‘I work with this person all of the time, so I’m not going to request a condom.’ I do understand because that is what I did. The people I trusted, I didn’t request a condom. "
Wendy “Maya” Divine: “Yes, I do work with condoms.”
Alana Evans: "I do like working without condoms better, but I do think that the industry should start doing things to stop the spread of other STDs. "
Felicia Fox: "Yes [I use condoms].
Jenna Haze (“Do you work with condoms or without?”]: “I do both…All the companies I have worked for have been really strict on the testing and being safe. AIM is a great thing for the business. I suppose there is more they could do, but they are doing a great job.”
Jenna J.: “I work without [condoms]. If someone asks me to work with one, I will.”
Layla Jade: “If I lived over here, I might [use condoms]. I don’t use them at all back home [in England] when I work.”
So it appears that the performers are very blase` about condoms, and put their faith in regular HIV testing. I noted through out the interviews that performers who were very concerned about HIV and other STDs simply left the business.
