Yes he probably removed some gum tissue to get better access to the tooth for the crown prep. Did he “scrape” it off? Probally he cut it off with either a scalpel or the burr he used to prep the tooth.
There my be some extra cement from the temporary if it bothers you and you can’t get out yourself return to the dentist for removal.
