It was because of the TV show that I discovered the books.
While I enjoyed the TV show (and it shouldn’t have been cancelled) the books are just so much better!

I’d go for the obvious and say Sam Elliott.
I believe so. In the first book, Morgan’s described as something of a Norseman: white with blonde hair, probably shoulder-length or more, with the air of a barely-restrained berserker about him. He’s a lot crazier in the books than in the show.
/nitpick- grey hair, long enough to be pulled into a ponytail. He’s been a warden for over a century, and considering the (prior to events in the later books) vetting process for wardens, let alone a field commander of Morgan’s status, he’s got to be getting on up there in years. And he’s definitely noted as being Germanic/Norse in origin, which made the choice of Conrad Coats rather… odd.
Well, Harry Dresden is “extraordinarily tall” at 6 foot nine inches; he’d loom over Blackthorne. Of course, the likely inability to find someone that tall who fits the part & can act is a practical consideration.
< Picks up Storm Front >
He has “listless brown hair going grey in uneven patches”, and grey eyes.
Go figure. I’ll need to read the series a few more times, clearly.
And yeah, I always got the impression of book Dresden being scarecrow tall and skinny. Blackthorne seems a little too…fleshed out compared to the book descriptions.
I never would have guessed that - my recollection of the series was that he seemed 5’10" or so. Clearly I need to watch it again, and verify that the entire cast was not giants.
Same here and same here.
I thought Paul Blackthorne was a good fit for Dresden. Perfect? No. But good.
I just finished Turn Coat last night.
People who like the books might like the Felix Castor books by Mike Carey, starting with The Devil You Know. Similar feel (though definitely grittier), though I prefer Butcher.
I watched a couple of episodes over the weekend - yeah, he’s a tall guy. Cruz (Murphy) is listed as 5’ 8", and he has a full head over her. He must have a really big head - when I watch him without focusing on those around him, he still seems under 6’ to me.
That’s certainly how I picture things.
I think you’re thinking of Big Bill Brasky. I don’t remember Harry being **that **tall.
Is he really listed at 6-foot-9 in Stormfront? I’m not digging out the books, but I had in mind 6-foot-5 or so.
Besides, Magician, Fiction, or not, 6-foot-5 in a VW beetle is already pushing my suspension of disbelief to the breaking point.
I tried a Google search, but my Google-Fu failed.
Actually, I used his character description in the back of the comic aka “graphic novel” Welcome to the Jungle. Butcher wrote it, and describes the characters as being portrayed just how he imagined them to be.
