Oh, and mirage, to find out all about Left Behind, its supporters, and what they think, go to http://www.leftbehind.com (or something related). Just be careful, there was a bit of a dustup with their message board almost a year ago.
Hmmm…I don’t think tracer has posted to this thread. Possibly that was therefore a reply to me.
There may well be fundies out there who think that King James is/was the Antichrist and all his works are therefore of the Devil. I wouldn’t put anything (well, not very much, anyway) past those guys. However, I suspect that any such fundies are greatly outnumbered by the fundies who believe that the KJV is the only true Bible this side of the “original autographs”. (Like the lady said, “If the English language was good enough for Jesus and the Apostle Paul then it’s good enough for me.”) These days, both the King-James-Onlyists and any The-King-James-Version-is-the-work-of-the-Devil-ists out there are all greatly outnumbered by more laid back fundamentalists who will accept various versions of the Bible (although not the ones which refer to the Holy Ghost as “she”, and let’s not even get into the Apocrypha).
In defense of the concept mentioned here about the Holy Ghost being “she,” I’d like to mention that printing that in a Bible is a blatant disregard for the art of translation.
You can have your theories about God, etc., all you want, but translating that word as “she” is simply inserting your opinion into what was supposed to be a literal translation(I would assume), even if the grammar of course is re-arranged.
