It’s gotta be that, hasn’t it?
Ok, I’m not asking if we can do these things now, but if there is a way we can do them in the future.
I still don’t understand why time won’t be reversed if we reverse the rotation of the Earth. We can tell time by looking at the Sun, if it is at this point in the sky it is 9am. Comparing the Sun to a watch is ridiculous, watches measure time the Sun displays time.
Not ridiculous at all; the position of the sun in the sky is something that changes as time passes, but the rotation of the Earth doesn’t cause time to pass.
The rotation of the Earth is a purely mechanical function, just like the hands on my watch.
No more ridiculous than your suggestion that the flow of time is dependent upon the rotation of the Earth. The sun moving through the sky is just another watch: it’s motion is an effect of time flowing, not a cause. All you’re suggesting doing is turning the big watch in the sky backward.
What about if I was to leave the Earth and spend some time on (say) an asteroid that isn’t rotating in relation to the sun, what would happen then?
Are you saying that a second is not a second other places in the universe where the sun is not visible?
Was a second not a second before the sun and earth came into being?
A second is a measure of time. Time goes one way. Clocks measure the passage of time. We have an innate feel for the passage of time.
Are you suggesting that if the earth turned backwards and sun went rose in the west that effect would preceed cause? Reversing the spin of the earth would be as likely to cause time to run backwards as putting a car into reverse. Changing the direction of motion of an object has absolutely nothing to do with the flow of time.
Granted that if some catastrophy retarded the rotation of the earth by 360/24/6 degrees (six hours), people would probably reset their clocks so that noon happens when the sun was at its peak some later date.
But if time ran backwards, everyone’s clocks wouldn’t need turning back, they would already agree with sun’s position in the sky AND nobody would notice the difference. Really now, are you trying to suggest that altering the rotatation speed of the earth would cause everyone’s clocks to run at different rate without the need for manual intervention and that everyone would begin aging at a different rate?
Damn, that should be 360/24*6 degrees
No.
The answer to your question, BZ00000, to put it in terms you may understand, is:
“*vewy, vewy fast/i]”
Let’s just leave it at that, mmmkay?

What does this mean?
scotth are you saying that if I broke a glass, then reversed the rotation of the Earth the glass wouldn’t become unbroken?
My troll threshold is very high, but it has finally been exceeded. Unless you come back and tell us that your are 12 years old or have severe developemental problems, troll has to be the answer.
OK, I’m convinced it’s a troll now.
Me three.
Look you guys, if the dude wants to make the earth spin the other way, let him. Quit giving him such a hard time.
Allright BZ0000 let’s do this now: Pay attention, I’m just gonna assume you live in the US. When you stand outside where you liveand you look at the sun, say around noon. Okay, now envision the earth rotating. The sun comes up in the east while you face south and it set in the west.
With me so far…standing like you are, the earth is spinning counter clockwise…Right!
Time is travelling forward, we’re all getting older. the sun always comes up in the morning and sets the same in the evening.
Get ready… it’s coming…go to south america, australia, south pole is best!
Go outside and locate the sun early in the morning. It will be on your right hand side and you will be facing north.
hmmm spooky…the sun is actually reversed and the earth is no longer spinning counterclockwise…it’s completely reversed and is now spinning clockwise.
Damn…do that…go to Antarctica and/or the North Pole and you will get to see the Earth’s rotation reversed. How much it changes time, WELL that’s another story!
t-keela all you doing is changing the perspective of the viewer, this wil not reverse time.
But thank you for the help at least you were trying. Thank you.
Oh, Moderator!!!
You know. I think BZ00000 is on to something.
I spent yesterday hanging upside down and looking through a mirror. Oddly, I don’t look or feel a day older. I think I was in some sort of isolated time warp.
But, to finally answer BZ00000’s question. The only person who can do this feat is superman (something about krypton powers and tight red underoos). NASA can’t do it because a feat like this would always go to the lowest bidder and Superman always works for free.
The question has been answered, so I’ll close this thread.
I will take this opportunity to remind folks that accusations of trolling are best handled by e-mailing a moderator or administrator, not by making the accusation in this forum.
