I need a new tire for my 1999 oldsmobile alero. I looked at the tires I have as well as the manual for the car and cannot find the necessary info that I would need in order to call around town.
First, What info is necessary to provide the tire places when calling? (tire size, etc.)
Second, I need to find those specs for my 99 Alero. What are the specifications I would need for my car’s tires?
Are there any online resources???
Any help is appreciated. When I get my tires, I’ll take you out for ice cream if you live nearby…
Thanks!
www.tirerack.com can give you the size tires for your car.
Try looking at the tire on the other side of the car - the info is usually (always?) right there on the tire. I think you need three numbers
- tread width - often measured in millimeters
- sidewall height - usually expressed as a percentage of the tread width
- wheel radius - the size of the donut hole
So, for example, my truck tires are 285/75-R-16 if I remember correctly.
Tirerack is a great site. Second it…
I even bought tires from them, had them delivered to a shop in Golden who installed them for $30. Painless.
The tire placard, typically on the edge of the driver’s door, will list the size of the tires on your vehicle. This would be the best way to find what tire size originally came on your car, especially if there are multiple tire options for that vehicle, or if a previous owner installed non-standard-size tires.
Sorry for the double post - my point in saying to check the other tire when only replacing a single one was to make sure you have matching sized tires in case what’s currently on the car is not the stock size.
For example, I know what my stock tire size is - but the tires currently on my truck are slightly bigger. If I need to replace one, I need to match the remaining ones regardless of what the stock size is.
Oops, missed that the OP was only replacing one tire. I agree with this, though still recommend checking the placard if all tires will be replaced.
