DDG if you email me at samclem@aol.com I’ll provide you with some further proof. I’m sorry if that seems cryptic and not exactly open, but it is necessary in this case. It reveals a confidence that I would feel comfortable sharing with my feathered friend, but not comfortable posting to a public board.

Wow! That’s just what Dr. Grayling said to me when I emailed him.
Dr. Grayling also offers info that the penises are “chipped off”, not simply marble dildos.
Ahem… I wasn’t there, but I do have some knowledge in this area cough.
Bottom line: hooey.

Well, Sam, thanks for going to the trouble to e-mail Grayling. I’ll pass on the “dildos” thing, because I don’t want it to turn into a “did not”, “did too”, thing.
However, I still have some strong quibbles on the Cape Malay thing. His entire quote in the original article was this:
Okay, he’s got four statements here, none of which I can regard as proven, or as supported by anything on the Web other than Grayling’s article.
- Among the Cape Malays, it is a sign of female beauty to have the four upper and lower front teeth missing.
- Cape Malay women are in the habit of having their four upper and lower front teeth removed.
- The reason Cape Malay women have their four upper and lower front teeth removed is to facilitate fellatio.
- In the Cape Malay community, fellatio is the main form of contraception.
His train of thought is, “The Cape Malay community uses fellatio as their main means of contraception, therefore Cape Malay women have their teeth pulled to facilitate this, therefore having teeth missing is considered a sign of beauty.”
His e-mailed response, however, is dealing with Cape Malay prostitutes, which I would not consider representative of the Cape Malay “community”. It’s like saying, “The Hamburg community has largely given up wearing real fur” and then trying to support this statement by saying, “I was once approached by prostitutes on the Reeperbahn, and they were all wearing faux fur.” See? The hookers of the Reeperbahn aren’t representative of the Hamburg community.
And this doesn’t address the issue of standards of female beauty in the Cape Malay community, or of their methods of contraception.
So. Sorry to seem so pissy about this. :o And, BTW, you don’t need to keep e-mailing him. I don’t want to get involved in an “are not”, “are too” kind of thing, unless he’s got some kind of cites besides, “Well, I was there and that’s what I was told.” It doesn’t work like that here.
