What line of work are ya in, Bob?
Funny line: “First, ‘gay’ meant happy. Then, ‘gay’ meant lame.”
Anyone notice the boss at Jim’s branch was giving the “H.E.R.O.” presentation that Michael had to give once?

That really cracked me up too. That dude has a real funny delivery.
I know it’s been mentioned, but my favorite part was when Roy comes in with 2 foil wrapped plates and asks Pam “Chicken, or fish?” and we find out a few minutes later that they’ve frozen all the food from the cancelled wedding. The delayed explanation of the joke did it for me.
The conference room was bit cringe worthy but the reactions of the employees, especially Pam, was priceless.
What happened right before Pam was talking about cancelling the wedding and getting her own apartment and freezing the food? I ran to the bathroom during the commercial and didn’t get back in time? Did she explain why they cancelled? Did she tell him about Jim? Can’t believe I missed so much in 15 seconds…
It broke my heart earlier in the episode where Pam is laughing to herself and wanting to share it with Jim, but she turns and it is Ryan and he gives her a ‘WTF’ look.
I like the direction they’ve gone with Roy. It would have been easy to just have him disappear from the scene, either by moving away or being so uncaring or jerkish as to lose any sympathy. Instead, he’s actually a more sympathetic character than before.
As with David in the British show, Michael will occasionally, perhaps by accident, say something that actually makes sense or shows some insight and compassion. “Maybe love is supposed to break the rules.” Immediately followed by saying of Oscar’s roommate Gil: “I wonder if he knows?”
I think all you missed was Pam going about her business and the camera zooming in for a close-up of her naked ring finger. Then we cut to a Pam talking head explaining that she called off the wedding. Jim wasn’t mentioned.
Wanted to add – Roy’s DWI mugshot actually looked worse than Nick Nolte’s. That’s an accomplishment.
Good call.
Yes but here is what is puzzling me. This is a few months after The Kiss. Presumably, the footage from the “documentary” from the pervious season has been shown already. Did they show The Kiss as part of the documentary or did they edit it out? You would think that everyone would know about it as well as about Dwight and Angela.
I came this close to changing the channel before that bit, thinking the show was over. Thank God I didn’t – I hadn’t laughed that hard from a scene in a TV show in a looong time.
The revamped labling was great: “HOMO-----BI-----STRAIGHT”
My daughter sent me a text msg from college, so excited that Ed Helms was on the show. It took me a minute or so before I recognized him without the glasses, but I loved his reaction to the jello.
Nobody gets to actually “see” the documentary. It’s just stylistic device.
Actually, I’ve heard rumors that they will indeed watch the footage at some point. Didn’t they do so on the British series? Of course, it may be hard to sit still for 11 hours to watch it all.
But kind of unrealistic that they would follow Jim to the office. Although, then again, the girl in Stamford refers to the cameras as if she is used to them too.
“I like the tangy *zip * of Muhracle Whip.”
I thought the conference room was pitch-perfect. For all Michael’s astounding cluelessness and tendency toward stereotypical thinking, it’s hard to say he’s mean-spirited. So yeah, he’s being an irritating tit, but then what Oscar said (while completely valid and understandable) was so mean and harsh, and Michael was so genuinely hurt, I thought it played well for Oscar to retract it and offer a hug. Then Michael had to go too far again immediately, of course.
I too thought Roy was looking quite nice (not the mugshot, LOL). I’ve had a bit of a thing for that actor since he was in The Replacements.
One thing I didn’t like completely - they had already shown Pam turning to Ryan, and later Jim was in the HERO presentation, and the shot had him and an empty chair next to him. I think they underestimated the audience a little by having him look wistfully at the chair. It would have been poignant without that - with it I felt I was being beaten over the head with it.
Oh and my other favorite line was Oscar’s talking-head about his awesome gayness: “I’m an accountant, working at a struggling paper company - much like Sir Ian McKellan!”
I’ll give them some leeway on that. No documentarian would capture the entire Jim/Pam buildup through last season and not do everything possible to get what happens next.
Now whether uptight Stamford would allow the cameras in is another question.
Aw darn, I did change the station after Oscar’s last lines. What did I miss?
And this also escaped me: Toward the end, Jim is in a conference in Stamford, and looks at the empty chair next to him. Was there someone supposed to be there, or was this meant to imply Pam?
I think it was suggesting Pam.
What you missed at the end was Dwight receiving a package from Jim. It had head-phones and a wand with little lights on it that indicated “GAY — STRAIGHT”.
It was supposedly “gaydar”. He waved it in from of Oscar and it beeped, and then he waved it in front of himself, and it beeped again.
Pam got a funny look on her face, because it was Jim playing a joke on Dwight from afar.
