Question for educators

or anyone else who cares to add. What is your opinion on school
vouchers? I can’t see a downside.

Church. State. 'Nuff said.

Some of those who are opposed to school vouchers feel that it will drain money away from already exisiting public schools.

Additionally, private schools (parochial or otherwise) tend to not have as many mandates and restrictions currently placed on them as public schools…so some folks feel that public schools would be “competing” on an uneven playing field for that voucher money.

(note: these are not necessarily MY exact opinions…but opinions often mentioned by those opposed to vouchers)

AFAIK, the SCOTUS has not yet ruled on the constitutionality of vouchers, I believe that the current administration is arguing that since voucher money would go to parents, who then make whatever school choice they wish, that it’s not a direct endorsement of church based activities.

Vouchers are a horrible idea.

If the state wants to shut down all the public schools, it should just do it. Using voucher programs, increasingly expensive and unnecessary standardized tests, and increasingly difficult working conditions at the same pay scale to slowly suck all the good out of the public schools is just cruel.

My view.
Basically the government is saying ‘Look, we built some schools, bought some books, hired some teachers and guess what? It didn’t turn out perfect. So we tried some fixes and those havn’t really worked out so here, take this money and please go away and leave us alone.’
