I have a bunch of text that is white against an orange background. I want to put a fuzzy drop shadow or a glow on the text to make it stand out a bit more from the background and be easier to read.
How the heck can I do that? I am having a blind day because I can’t see how to add any kind of effect at all to text in this program!
Thank you! The weird thing here is that I know that yesterday I at least thought I tried that exact thing, but the “Drop Shadow” menu item was greyed out. Dunno what I was doing but it worked this time!
If you have a cursor blinking in your text, rather than having the entire text box selected, the Drop Shadow menu item is greyed out. Maybe that’s what you were doing yesterday. You can switch to the Selection Tool (mouse pointer is a black arrow) to ensure that you are selecting the text box, rather than the text itself - this will guarantee access to the Drop Shadow effect.
Another way to bring out white type is to put a thin black outline around it - it’s pretty subtle but makes a big difference to the eye.
No that difference would be too harsh (an outline). I have used that effect many times on larger type, but this is small text.
And yes, yesterday I had the selection tool (the black arrow) and I know that at least my intention was to make sure I was selecting the text box and not the text itself, etc… not sure what the deal was.
I’m very good with Illustrator and Photoshop but not quite as proficient with InDesign, though I’m decent. Most of the time I can use my knowledge of one to figure out how to do things in the other…
