Question for Japanese speakers

How do you say, “I miss you?” I tried to babelfish it but it only translated it into characters.

Aitai

Litterally that means “I want to meet you”, but that’s what you would say to, say, a lover. You can add na, to add a little more emphasis. Aitai na.

However, you wouldn’t use that with people like your parents, as it’s just too direct.

The babelfish translation is hilarious, it says watashi wa nogasu. I’d translate that as “I miss”. But the miss here, is in the sense of “miss an opportunity”.

There’s also ‘sabishii’, which means ‘lonely’, but when said directly to someone usually carries the meaning of “I’m lonely for you” or “I miss you”.
