Question for Kindle users

For people that have a Kindle, very often books, especially sci fi books, will have extra things near the front or back such as maps or timelines and things like that. Do the Kindle editions also have these things or are they just the text and nothing more? Considering getting one and this is one of the factors (albeit a minor one but figured I would ask). Thanks.

Yes, they do. Or at least the books I’ve gotten for my Kindle do. Can’t say that’s true for every book, of course. But based on my sampling, yes, the maps and diagrams are included.

If you’re going for older scifi (okay, VERY old scifi) that’s in the public domain, don’t count on the free editions having these extras. They have free versions and pay versions of that stuff because the pay versions include all those extras.

Careful! Pay versions of public domain books aren’t necessarily any better than free versions.

Sometimes the maps and such in Kindle books are a little hard to read, IMHO. A small inconvenience compared to the other pluses of the device, but FYI.

Yes, I to can say that my general experience with standard mass market paid editions is that they’re there (though sometimes front material is at the end of the book instead or the book will be set to open on the first page of the actual text and you may not notice).

But it is the nature of the device that flipping back and forth within the text is not particularly convenient so I need to be mightily confused before I’ll bother.
