Question for liberal dopers age 50 to 55

No kidding. Wow.
Shodan, give it up. I have never seen anyone over ten years old acting the way you are in this thread.

Ujnfortunately, it isn’t an act, it’s a way of life.

It is a waste of time to rehash the whole Swift Boat Vet thing, but I disagree. Kerry backtracked, too. Being in Cambodia, one of his Purple Hearts, the Winter Soldier meeting, and releasing his military records, which he finally did, but not in full.

The reason the issue came up in this thread is the Soylent Green referred to them as Chicken Hawks, which just makes no sense. If the accusation is directed at Bush/Cheney, etc., that’s one thing. But their involvement, whether true or not, is conjecture. And whatever role Bush played/didn’t play in the war is a completely different issue than what Kerry did. If you are interested in getting the story straight, so you can discount more effectively, I suggest reading the book by John ONeill. I’m no big fan of Bush, and never voted for him, but I found the evidence compelling. To write it off as another right wing conspiracy is just party-line bluster and wishful thinking.

Oh, good. That settles everything.

There claims were proven false? They got spanked? Not from the majority of interviews I saw.

And you must realize that the quotes you supplied do nothing to prove any claim by the SBVs. You might want to read them again.

His being wounded was never in question. How the wounds occured was the question. If a wound is not caused by enemy fire it is not eligible for a PH. Just ask Max Cleland. Now you might want to debate the rule, and I might agree with you, but as it stands, and stood, self-inflicted wounds do not qualify. (And I’m NOT saying that they were intentionally self inflicted.)

And again, you must realize that what Bush did, or didn’t do has no bearing whatsoever what Kerry did in Vietnam–good or bad.

The dots can always connect if you work hard enough.

Care to explain what the hell you’re talking about here?

You can believe whatever lies you want to, it’s your business. But some of us paid attention when the whole Swifty thing went down. This is the problem with politics. People stick their finers in their ears and go “lalalalalala I can’t hear you. meeble meeble, Rush says, Hannity says” and it’s all lies but it makes you happy. The quotes were from The News. The person who “spanked” them hardest was from Fox News, who are usually painted as Bush cheerleaders. If Bush’s most ardent supporters called bullshit on the Swifties, well that should tell you something.

The whole Swift Boats thing can be clarified in two centences:

John Kerry had his ass in one or more firefights in southeast Asia.
George W. Bush did not.
