Question for librarians about recent developments in the profession

It’s been over 5 years since I last worked as a librarian. I haven’t kept up with changes in the field though I’m aware it’s changing all the time, particularly with the latest information technology.

So how have library science and library work changed in the past 5 years? What’s a quick way to get updated?

The best place to start would probably be the ALA website. You can read lots of stuff there on the current state of various aspects of the profession, and get links to more specific fields’ websites, some of which require memberships to get to the good stuff.

Anything else I would add would be inappropriate to GQ as it would consist solely of my opinion.

Thank you.
Shall I start a thread in IMHO for that?

Probably. You’d get more responses. Evidently now you have to vlog and live in Second Life, if you listen to some people.

Heh. Please see my profile, specifically, my “home page.”

Dude, don’t you work at Charlotte-Mecklenburg, where I imagine you can find a Michael Stephens humping something digital around every corner? If so, your library has the world’s lamest MySpace page. It’s like if my grandma played Guitar Hero. Or are you at a different Charlotte library?

I love librarian trashtalk!

I can neither confirm nor deny your statements.
