Question for Lynn

Either you overlooked this or you have a different definition of trolling than I.

I have read the thread in question by Uncivil several times. Lynn was wrong. I am quite certain that she misread the thread and did not fully understand how it was shifted among forums. It is absolutely clear to me that the OP was just trying to clarify his joke. It wasn’t a particularly funny joke, but in MPISMS it was a perfectly acceptable attempt at one.

What distinguishes the banned from the unbanned, and the good poster from the mediocre is the ability to admit a mistake. Many people left here after refusing to admit that their judgement or word choice wasn’t the best. I would hope that after re-reading the thread Lynn has the common sense to admit her mistake and un-ban Uncivil. To fail to do so would be unjust.

Who doesn’t like watching people who are extremely anal get worked up?

That’s not necessarily an admission of trolling, it’s an admission of liking to see anal people be frustrated.

If the anal person in question is getting him/herself worked up, or if others are engaged in an argument with the anal person and the anal person is getting worked up, it can be (and often is) quite amusing - rather like when I’d watch my mother spend two or three hours ironing one panel of drapes because the pleats weren’t just right.

Trolling would be akin to going in there and ironing wrinkles into her drapes just to see her get pissed at them.

So it is possible that watching someone get completely annoyed is not trolling. Whether that’s the way Civil Defense went about it, I don’t know. I didn’t read enough of his/her posts to be able to tell.

gosh youre clever, I feel so stung by your witty response, I can barely post.

A perfectly reasonable reason to close the thread you opened exists. Im sorry that it ruins your martyr complex, but there it is. As for the rest, I rarely post at all anymore, generally only when I see something that defies reasonableness - as in suggesting that the obvious reason for a thread closure should be discarded 'cause it doesn’t fit in with your favorite conspiracy theory.

There’s also this gem (bolding mine):

Looked to me like CD was posting for the express purpose to get people all worked up, anal or not. YMMV.

He was clearly treading a fine line. Maybe Lynne has exteded “trolling” to mean “deliberately annoying”.

Gah! Lynn, please disregard that “e” there!

I think there may be some history here. If there wasn’t, I think Lynn was a bit quick on the draw.

If it is not trolling and it was an accidental crossing of the line, I’d imagine a simple email and an “I’m sorry” can fix it. Banning need not be permanent.

If anything, I think we need more agressive modding.

Great job, Lynn. Keep it up, we love ya.

I moved the thread to The BBQ Pit because I thought(and still do think) that it belonged there, especially after the request to move it to Great Debates, the claim afterwards that he actually meant it to be pointless notwithstanding.
That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Who are you again?

My statement addressed this part of the OP:

Wanna show me where I was speaking for Lynn?

Why do people insist on reading more into my posts than is actually present?

Maybe. It’s late, and I don’t feel like checking, but didn’t he first say he meant to post it in GD? Anyway, I’m only speculating.

Umm, because you’ve been playing the role of teacher’s pet for so long that people assume that’s what you’re doing?

Cite(s)? :stuck_out_tongue:

Name and profile should be easy enough for you to find, sport.

Or, if that’s too difficult, I’m just a person on a message board telling you that you are annoying as all get out, and not particularly stylish with that Junior Mod hat on.

Not that you haven’t read that before.

Besides, does it matter who I am? My point is still the same.

(and if this is one of those attempts to intimidate using post count, Staff Report writing or just an overwhelming need to feel superior, remember that I’m just like you–a person writing a post on a message board. Or did you think that there was something more to it than that? Poor dear!)

Maybe it’s your tone? It takes a little more effort to make “condescending” work. Or some contribution apart from your apparent desire to ingratiate yourself with the Powers That Be.

Interesting that you used “people.” Guess that means that you recognize that it’s just not me. Tell me, how many people have to post before you start getting the point?

Sorry to jarbabyj for the hijack. Still am interested in Lynn’s perspective. And also an answer to the question in the OP:

If a Mod moves a thread to another forum (obviously without the OP having any control over the move), and that thread happens to violate the rules of that forum (no insults in GD, no jokes in the Pit), can the OP be held responsible? Is the OP liable to be banned?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

I, too, am interested in a response from Lynn. Unless there’s other history, I think she got this one wrong.

Yeah, maybe, but so what? Come on. It’s like you people are camped out in the desert waiting for signs in the sky that the mothership will come. Even if she made a mistake, what’s the big deal? Why is it required that she offer alms and penance to assuage the concerns of the masses? I mean, this isn’t judgment day, and what’s-his-face isn’t going to hell for trolling. Why can’t you just go on about your business and forget about it?

Because I quite like posting here, Lib. And every now and again I see someone get banned for doing something pretty innocuous and I think “Gee, it wouldn’t be beyond me to do something like that poor sod did, and I’d be a tad upset if I got banned.”

That’s why.

Well, just don’t be upset. Just don’t worry about it. It’s common knowledge that if something like that happens, you can contact an admin and explain yourself, and everything will be cleared up. It’s happened many times. It happened (sort of) to me. But a Pit thread pile-on is most assuredly not the way to go about anything constructively.

Sure, and if I was to be arrested on the street after been mistaken for a hooker selling blowjobs for crack, then 'm sure my lawyer and I will be able to explain things to the police and I’ll be set free. But I’d sure like to avoid the hassle, plus the indignity of people pointing and laughing as they cart my screaming, bewigged self to the police wagon…

Oops, I think I’m projecting. :stuck_out_tongue:

… but seriously, while unbanning is possible, clarification on the things we can do to avoid being banned is always useful. Plus, we’ve been mostly polite and calm in this thread (well, to Lynn at least).

So YOU thought it belonged in the PIT, and then he was banned for posting a joke thread in the PIT, even though YOU moved it there from MPSIMS, where HE posted it originally.

So Uncivil was banned because YOU put him in the situation where he was breaking a rule? Seems a little off.
