question for manhattan

And what about us Electric Bass players?

The instrument is smaller than a Double Bass, for sure, but have you ever tried lugging around a Bass Amp?? Mine has to weigh over 80lbs!

Ahhh, fond memories of struggling in the Montréal Bus/Métro system with my Bass and Amp… People not moving from in front of the train/bus doors… Lovely!

And I think it`s fair to say most lower-register instrument players are grossly overlooked in most situations…

Tuba, Double Bass, Electric Bass, and all other Bass Players of the World Unite!

[sub]Ssshhsssh!! If you’re not quiet the percussionists will hear you and then they’ll get all riled up, too.[/sub]

Yeah, but those namby-pamby percussionists don’t have to carry their own instruments around. They have that little roll-up burrito of all their sticks.
There’s a sexual innuendo joke in there somewhere, but my tiny brain just couldn’t come up with one.

Quoth Ukulele Ike:

You want upper registers? Play a cornet. When you want E flat four octaves below middle C, call a real bass tubist.

You can play tuba in damn near any register: check out these examples from Howard Johnson and Gravity on THIS page:

And thanks to Karl Kleinsteuber (great tubist and also a member of Gravity) for providing these pages and samples.

Great hijack, folks, but if this keeps up I’ll have to move the thread somewhere else, it ain’t ATMB. Where, I ain’t sure. MPSIMS around here much?

who admits to playing bass and percussion too, so there.

PS I wish all I had was “a little rollup burrito;” it’s like housemoving doing any gig!

I’ll open a Tuba Admiration League thread in Cafe Society if you think I can get away with it. Do you have any spicy Tuba Diva pinups to go with those other links? It might help.

Okay, Shibb my dear, enough already.

You been listening to that Spoofe character again, right?

I would never carry a gun in my stocking top, it’s hard enough walking in these stilettos as it is.
