Someone told me that all Filipino-made movies are on Region-0/Region-All DVDs and non-Filipino movies are in regular Region-3.
Because of this I recently bought a Filipino DVD on eBay that is Region-All so it plays on my Region 1 player. It looks authentic, the inserts don’t look fishy, the DVD plays great too.
But now someone tells me that Philippine DVDs are Region-3 or they’re pirated.
Can someone please clear this up for me?
[For some reason I felt that this was a little weird for General Questions.]
I have reason to believe my local DVD rental guy stocks predominantly pirated films. Although his DVDs are all printed Region 1, they play on pretty much any player I can throw at 'em. They also all have the most pathetic english sub-title jobs I’ve ever seen. And in some notable cases, he’s got DVD prints of movies which haven’t been released on DVD as yet (F/911 is a recent example). The DVD cases all seem alright though.
What has this got to do with the Phillipines? Well, he/his family has substantial business interests there, with much of his family having settled there several years ago. Tenuous connection, I know, but it does seem rather fishy.
Officially the Phillipines is Region 3, and India is Region 5. Damned if I’ve ever even seen a Regino 5 DVD in his shop!
I recently bought a Region-ALL Korean DVD from an eBay seller that claims he doesn’t sell bootlegs, but my disc skips. Not in any particular spot, but I see skips every now and then.
The Filipino DVD on the other hand, is perfect.
Here’s another question: Are all-region DVD players legal?
