Dear Tuba–
Dan De Carlo is a cartoonist. For 50 years he has worked for Archie Comics. He created Josie & The Pussycats & A. Comics gave him the motion picture rights at the time he created the comic.

Recently, he asked for his share of the proceeds from the upcoming film from Universal Studios.

After 50 years, he was fired on the spot.

Then, they removed all of De Carlo’s creator credits from the film, & even from the animated cartoons on the Cartoon Network.

Universal & Archie Comics are trying to stall him in the courts until he dies of old age (he is over 70). This is shameless misconduct! :mad:

A number of comics publishers are trying to organize a boycott of the film.

I would like to post the phone #, Snail-mail addresses & E-mail addresses of Archie Comics & Universal, in the hopes that the Dopers, Lurkers & the teeming Millions would be willing to petition these firms on Mr. De Carlo’s behalf. To boycott the film, if necessary.

I would like you to E-Mail me if this is permisssable.

I hope you will help correct this injustice to a good man. If I cannot post the addresses, will you participate in the protest yourself, & pass this message on to Slug Signorino?

My gut feeling is that starting an organised vendetta on our boards is not going to be approved, though.

(And yes, I know, you have a noble cause in sight. But still, you know?)

Thanks for the info. I didn’t know about this until you posted (and, being a Snopes fan for far to long, I verified this for myself and can vouch for the info) I’m a huge fan of Dan DeCarlo too (I think he’s the second best Archie artist, just behind Bob Bolling and just ahead of Stan G!) and I’m glad you passed this on. Regardless of what the ruling on the board, I’m going to let Archie Comics know how I feel about this.

Just as an aside, I will not mention the Straight Dope board, the Chicago Reader, Cecil, Coldfire or anything else relating to the SDMB.

I strongly suggest that unless Tuba, Lynn or one of the other God-like beings OK’s an organized protest, anyone else here who’s offended by Archie Comic’s behavior do likewise and keep the SDMB out of the line of fire.

I’m disgusted and appalled.

As long as we’re at it, the Akron, Ohio City Council ruled against rezoning a property of a friend of mine. I think they were unjust and would like to post all the pertinent details here, but would like you opinion first. I wouldn’t want to be accused of shameless misconduct Please e-mail me. :rolleyes:

We don’t do petitions or protests here, no matter how good the cause is. I’d suggest going to an Archie comics fansite, and asking there.
