I was here years ago under whammo and before that b_line12. Since that time I have gone through a lot. It didn’t occur to me to come back Until I wrote the post I submitted here on Facebook. At that time, not too long ago, it got a lot of support. Many people told me it should be published. I don’t know about that but in thinking about it the smartest, funniest website I could think of took me back here. So I posted it, spelling and grammar issues and all, just as I had knocked it out on keyboard w/facebook. In the back of my mind thinking I would get destroyed because of that. I have to admit, all the comments were nice. I really appreciated it.
I read through the “in memoriam” post and had a hard time grasping the number of posters that have passed… If you think about it, thats just the ones that posted enough for people to know them, who knows how many more?
Anyway, this board has always held a special place for me since the smartest and greatest man I have ever known (my Dad, not Cecil lol) brought home a book from Barnes and Noble in the '90s entitled “The Straight Dope”. It was a HUGE bonding experience for us as it gave us sooo much to talk, laugh and engage in conversation about. Our closeness has evolved so much more then beyond this book however, he is now entering his 80th year and since the day he brought this book home we have never been closer.
Thank you to Cecil, Ed, the Chicago Reader… whoever the powers that be behind this are.
