Question on finding a particular AC Adapter

So…, I’m not a total idiot, but maybe I’m just not looking in the right way.

I have a Sharp MT77 minidisc player I bought in Japan a few years back. The minidisc player comes with a recharging cradle, and the accompanying AC adapter inputs AC 100v and outputs DC 5v at 800ma. Now…, my AC adapter has busted, I need a new one, but doing a search on google for different searches including the terms ‘5v ac adapter dc output 800ma’ in various combinations brings up all sorts of crap that I can’t really use. Overwhelming amount of info, and most pages I come to are selling the things en masse rather than as a single unit.

At this point I simply feel like a failure of a newbie EE student :(.

Anyway, I also recently bought a DC 5v 2.4amp AC adapter; didn’t realize it was 2.4amps until after I bought it. So I guess my questions are:

  1. Is there some way to rig the AC adapter I have to work with the cradle?
  2. If not, where can I get a single AC adapter that ouputs DC 5v at 800ma for a reasonable price?

The AC adapter that you have got being rated at 2.4 A shouldn’t be a problem for replacing a 800 mA adapter, assuming output voltage is reasonable independent of the output load (i.e. the player does not rely on the voltage dropping at full load, and the AC adapter’s output voltage at low load is not overly high.) What is the output voltage of the 5 V/2.4 A adapter with no load?

I’m confused by your question about rigging something. The AC adapter that broke, does it have a standard barrel plug on the end or is it some wacky custom job?

Also, Radio Shack has an adapter that does 5V 800mA. Catalog #: 273-1667

Grah, I thought I checked Radioshack, I guess my brain was just frazzled as all hell -_-;. Thanks SmackFu.
