Question re North Korean iconography

In watching such documentaries as “The Vice Guide to North Korea” and others available online, I’ve noticed that, in pictures and posters, Kim Il-Sung wears a business suit and tie. Yet his son, Kim Jong-Il, and grandson, Kim Jong-Un; wear a plain military-style uniform, reminiscent of what Mao Zedong wore in the People’s Republic of China.

Why do the two younger Kims not wear a business suit and tie, as Kim Il-Sung did?

(Mods, I think this has a factual answer, hence GQ; but if it develops more into IMHO territory, don’t hesitate to punt it over there.)

I think what they’re wearing is called a Mao suit. It’s supposed to be a kind of Asian counterpart to the Western-style suit. Not necessarily military.

I searched a few Korean websites and people make note of the fact that Kim Il Sung preferred Western suits but don’t talk about why.

Too late for the edit: some speculate the Mao suit projects a more “common man” image to the people.

IIRC, Kim Jong Il preferred shorter, waist length jackets with a zipper front.
