Is it true that on a hot day you should drink something hot to make you feel cooler rather than drinking something cold? It has something to do with the body’s internal thermostat.
Welcome to SDMB bowcom. Just a word about posting. This ia a general questions forum so your subject should be the question, not the word “question.” People will be able to scan the subject lines to see if they want to look at or reply to your thread.
That said, this question has been addressed lately but I’ll be darned if I can find it in the search. IIRC the concensus was that there doesn’t seem to be much evidence that hot drinks can be good. If your body is in risk of overheating it takes cool or cold liquids to help cool it.
Funny, I thought that the concensus was that any liquid helps a lot, but that cold drinks help a little bit more than hot ones. I’m at home now, but when i get to the office, I can provide cites.
The consensus is that liquids replenish fluids lost to perspiration, but hot water raises the body temperature, thereby directly counteracting the cooling effects of perspiration. Which of course only makes sense.
