Questions about that new technology in F1 racing

I am not a fan of F1 Racing, so I did not follow the season very much. However, I’m curious about that new energy-recovery technology that was used, so now that the season is over:

  1. what is the consensus on that new energy-recovery technology?

  2. I seem to remember there was two implementations of it, which one is favored if any, any manufacturer planning a switch for next season? Will it even be used again next year?

  3. what is the probability that these energy-recovery methods could compete with the current technology for hybrid passenger cars.
