Debated putting this in GQ, but put it here since I’d like to hear about personal experiences as well.
My partner’s mother has non-Hodgkins lymphoma and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Assuming she’s a match, my partner will be a donor.
A few questions that have us scratching our heads…
I’m assuming it’s possible to fly bone marrow cross-country (we’re on the East Coast, parents are on the West). Any experience with whether medical insurance pay for either the bone marrow or the donor to be transported?
How common is the apheresis method of bone marrow donation? It sounds more preferable than the traditional surgical method.
Big question: does anybody know whether a post-op transgender person (MTF) can donate? My partner’s willing to stop hormones if needed and is in great physical condition.
Any help is appreciated…
