This is an attempt to welcome you into the game of evolution, where the end goal is to integrate all of experience into one well functioning and self sustainable whole. Children dying and intense modes of suffering along all levels of existence is a way to ensure quality. Bad genes and memes are tested to their fullest extent before being finally discarded back into emptiness/chaos/silence. This manifests in your material world as “innocent” and children suffering from the willful infliction of pain from a distant and cruel God. This, again, is a very natural part of evolution and takes place both on a personal and collective level at different stages of development.

This is a god I can believe in–and fight to destroy it with every ounce of strength I have.

There is no chance. Randomness is an illusion based on a misconception about time and causality. There is no causality and time is not ultimately linear, it just appears like that from the inside perspective.
