questions re: resumes & background checks

**1. The background checks for employment screening… they show every single job you’ve ever had (based on your SS#)…correct?

  1. If so, I guess it would be wise to run one on yourself, to know what a prospective employer might see and make sure your resume/application is 100% accurate?**

(In the past I may have omitted a couple of short-term jobs because the experience was not relevant to the position I was seeking. Or maybe I’m just unsure of exact dates for jobs 15-20 years ago and end up guessing. In any event, nowadays I think companies look at those discrepancies as being dishonest/misleading and will not consider you for hire.)

**3. If I was going to do that, is there a particular “background check service” that is the most popular/reputable, or used by most companies? If I’m going to pay for one, I want a good one…

Thanks in advance for any advice or comments.

As far as I know, most employers don’t do real background checks because they have to pay for them. You can probably omit certain info and get away with. They will probably call just the former employers you’ve listed and that is usaully just to verify your employment.
