I’m interested in knowing the most ideal spot to book a hotel room in Moscow to be within walking distance of famous restaurants, parks and department stores. if you could choose a few subway stations to stop at which ones would be the most interesting. I look forward to your feedback.
There is a motel right downtown that puts you in walking distance of both the Subways in town (you mention a “few”, but I think Moscow only has two of them) as well all the famous spots. The Subway on 3rd street makes better sandwiches, IMHO.
Some of the metro stations you may wish to be near would be Ploshchad revolutsii, Teatralnaia, Okhotnyi riad, Arbatskaia. I love the area around Staryi Arbat, a pedestrian street in central Moscow. The Moscow metro is very easy to navigate (and worth visiting in its own right) if you are open to venturing further afield.
Moscow is currently undergoing a tremendous amount of construction in the center of the city, so be prepared for that.
Partner and me were in Moscow 2 weeks ago. We stayed at the Mercure Arbat which is at the far end of the Arbat pedestrianised shopping street. Plenty of good restaurants in the area and Arbat St is very pleasant to walk up and down in the evening especially when the trees are lit up with fairy lights.
There is a metro station (Smolenskaya) only about 50 yds from the hotel, which is westernised, clean and modern and comfortable. We booked on Booking.com and it was not expensive.
