Tangentially related: the hole-in-the-ground type toilet, which I grew up (a long time ago) thinking of as quintessentially French, is these days referred to by the French as une toillette a la Turque (a Turkish toilet). Which the wife discovered in a queue for the toilets, where everyone (all French) was avoiding that particular cubicle. How times change. It’s a rare thing to find one these days - I almost miss them. j
