Any chance that I can get any info about delayed a clavicle procedure? I broke my right collarbone 12 ought years ago, with a short mal-union and it is slowly driving me mad… I was wondering if anyone has been through this shituation before? Having to have a collar bone re-broken an pinned.
I broke mine 15 or so years ago and it re-joined badly (it’s a difficult bone to re-join without surgery because your muscles are constantly pulling down on it). It annoyed me for a few years - having a slightly shorter left arm, some back muscle pain etc. But I eventually got used to it.
I’ve broken my right clavicle 4 times and it looks like a spirochete (well, not that bad, but it’s pretty lumpy). Every time they just sort of put on that bra thing to pull my shoulder back and my doctors never seemed to be particularly fazed by the looks of it. I’ve got a bit of a rotator cuff type irritation but I can live with it.
I get the feeling that it has to be pretty bad before they are willing to rebreak it, plus I understand that it’s hard to break it in the same spot because of bone growth.
I broke mine a few years in a fall while sailing. I can feel mine now which is not as long as it was prior because the ends cross over themselves rather than align like a casted bone would heal. One wonders if an insurer would agree to pay for an open reduction of a healed bone.
