May a unit that was dislodged in a fall move retreat into a supply center controlled by another power, taking over this SC? I understand that dislodged units may not retreat to the spaces they were attacked from; but is it allowed to retreat to another un-occupied enemy SC?
I checked the rule book, and since it says that the transition of SC control (together with builds and disbands) takes place after the retreats, I guess the answer would be yes. Yet this result seems a bit absurd to me; anyone can give a definite answer?
It depends on why the province in question is unoccupied. The rulebook also says that a unit can’t retreat to a province that was left vacant by a standoff during the same turn. So if army A and army B both try to enter an unoccupied Munich and fail, army C can’t retreat to Munich on that same turn.
But other than that, “strategic retreating” is fine and dandy.
Schnitte, it’s not only “ok”, it’s also the sort of thing that some of us relish. What better than to retreat and grab an SC that the cad who has just stabbed you left open? Ah, how sweet it is. But as was pointed out, it can’t be an SC that was subject to a “bounce” during the orders phase of the round. And you can do this in Spring or Fall retreats, it doesn’t matter.
I third the ruling that a retreating unit can capture a unoccupied supply center, as long as the center was not subject to a bounce during the turn. That rule applies to all retreats of course, a province that has had a bounce cannot be retreated to.
