Saturn

Yes - Always

Pontiac Fiero
Yes

  1. Ford Taurus
  2. Yes. Verging on OCD-level.

Actually, check the ages of the drivers. I have no data, but I’m willing to hypothesize that most of those unbelted drivers are young. Youth = reckless, as the venerable Yoda would say, and a reckless person wouldn’t care about his or her seatbelt.

Hmm… I’m gonna check this out for myself, even though I don’t make it a habit to watch other drivers while I’m at the wheel…

1 - Ford Aerostar
2 - Yes

Buick GN, Ford Explorer, Pontiac Bonniville, Mercury GM
Yes, better than 99% of the time, even in the Grand Marquis - “the aircraft carrier of automobiles”

  1. Citroen Xsara Picasso
  2. Yes, it is a legal requirement here (quite aside from being a good idea)

Try adjusting the criteria; can you find, for example, that most people with red shirts are observed driving American cars?

  1. Ford
  2. Allow me to be the first to actually admit that I only wear my seat belt about 50% of the time, if that. This is despite it being a) the law, b) a good idea, c) life saving, and d) idiotic not too.

Hmm. Now that I have realized I don’t have any good reason not too, I am going to reevaluate my habits. Amazing what the SDMB wil do for you.

hahahahahahahahaha wipes away tear hahahaha

wait i should stop, i have a Ford (escort lx too, except not a wagon)… take pride in ur car Mr. Blue Sky, I do.

Oh and yes i wear my seatbelt while driving, but i prefer not to while being a passenger. i wouldn’t wear it while driving, but there’s usually someone hassling me to put it on or i just feel like i should put in on just in case… there’s a lot of crazy drivers here

  1. CORVETTE! (When the tranny isn’t dead.:smack: )
  2. AbsofriggenLUTELY!

Mike “and I HOPE they think 'He drives a vette because it’s a fun car and one of very few cars his 6’5” frame fits in’ and not ‘hmm, wonder if his chesthair gets caught in his gold chain necklaces’" Miller

  1. toyota tercel. her name is sasha.

  2. yes. the cops 'round here are real nazis. my sister got a ticket recently for not wearing her seatbelt. i’m not concerned about my safety or anything, i’d just like to avoid any fines.

Ok, Green Bean, an informal survey for you;
While driving around I observed (as best I could) who wasn’t and who was wearing their seatbelt. The only ones I saw not belted up were males in tricked-out Civics (Rice Boys :)). All four of the one’s I could get a good look at, anyway.
Is this a “thing” with these guys? Any rice boys out there?
Peace,

  1. Jeep Cherokee
  2. Always

Mrs. Top668

  1. Honda Civic
  2. Always

I have no proof, but I’d bet that it’s mainly older drivers. First, growing up around American cars, they’re more likely to buy one then an import and, second, they were driving before seat belt laws and probably less likely to have gotten into the habit of putting them on.

Toyota
Yes (it’s pretty much ingrained)

Honda
Yes, I always wear my seatbelt. Everyone in my car has to wear a seatbelt or I don’t drive.

On making passengers buckle up; I don’t want a 100 - 200 lb anything flying around in my car if do get into an accident. And I don’t want someone injured because I was too timid to insist.
So, buckle up or we don’t move. You have no choice. Simple.
Peace,
