His collaboration with Mike Oldfield “The Consequences of Indecision” is terrific. It’s a shame he’s not still with us.
Couple of quirky oldies…
Leonard Cohen’s Jazz Police
*Let me be somebody I admire
Let me be that muscle down the street
Stick another turtle on the fire
Guys like me are mad for turtle meat
Jazz police I hear you calling
Jazz police I feel so blue
Jazz police I think I’m falling,
I’m falling for you*…
And so forth…I actually like this song, but unfortunately every time I hear it it goes on to form an endless loop playing in my head. Is this what they call an earworm?
And the king of quirkiness, John Prine (whom I also like very much).
Come Back to us Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard
And others…
I am a sucker for weird covers. Some of my faves:
Prozak for Lovers (I and II): smooth bossanova versions of such hits as Psycho Killer, Aqualung, and Don’t Fear the Reaper
Yidcore: Hardcore punk versions of traditional Jewish music (and Fiddler on the Roof). Probably not that interesting unless you know the music already.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou soundtrack: Beautiful acoustic versions of David Bowie hits, in Portuguese, by Seu Jorge
Even now, but especially in the 1970’s, Ralph Lundsten was most definitely “quirky”. That said, I found it strangely listenable.
One of my favorite songs.
