Quora: GQ on Steroids

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with the team that build Quora. I’m just a passionate user.

Quora is a Question & Answer startup headed by some ex-Facebook people (include it’s former CTO). In the first few months of it’s existence, it remained in private beta and managed to accumulate an amazing community of aggressively smart people. On top of that, it’s also a pretty amazing piece of software, with a number of technical innovations that aim to make it a high quality Q&A site, although it’s still definitely a little rough around the edges…

As of yesterday, they opened themselves up so that anyone could register. Right now, the crowd is mainly technology/startup/silicon valley focused but there’s quite a few questions on there which appeal to a broader base.

What would you advise your (hypothetical) 22-year old college-grad child to do with his or her life?
How do I get over my low tolerance for stupid people?
Aston Kutcher weighs in on What determines whether an actor is cast in a part in Hollywood?
How does a penniless entrepreneur attract gold diggers? is just an excellent piece of writing.

Anyway, the SDMB seems like a great place to find people who would fit in well at Quora so I thought I would give a shoutout. Come visit, explore a bit, see what you think. I am Xianhang Zhang on Quora, feel free to follow me.

I will definitely [del]destroy the competition[/del] check it out! Thanks

It looks like you need a Facebook or Twitter account to use this. I just deleted my Facebook account because Facebook is evil and have no interest in Twitter. Is there a way to set up a local account that I didn’t notice?

There but for the grace of God…

There is not right now.
