Quoting rules

See? That radically changes the context and meaning.

Discourse has a nifty thing. If you click on the little down pointing thing to the left of the up arrow in the upper right of the quote box it shows the whole post that is being quoted so that anyone can see the whole context and meaning of the post.

Just FYI, to help and try to un-confuse people.

Yes, the rules could use a refresh, and that would include simplifying them. A compromise would be to have a “newbie friendly” short version, with links to some special topics that might have more detail, but that could be inferred from the short version.

I thought this was resolved and did not realize it was not.

Mea Culpa: I was instructed my interpretation of the rules is incorrect. We will not be modnoting for a lack of snipping or ellipses as long as the quote has the expansion button still intact or in fact in any cases except those where the quote is completely taken out of context to change the meaning.

Hopefully this concludes it.

Thank you!

Yes, thank you.

It will be good not to have to keep copying and pasting that giant snip, too.

At this point I’m fine if y’all want to shut this down. As BJ Novak famously said, my only friend in the whole wide world is a hippo named Boo Boo Butt.

I’m going to take you up on that offer.

Thank you,
Jim
